What is “the catch” when you de-pin and re-pin automotive connectors?

How to release "the catch"

  1. Remove the front face of the electrical connector (the green face shown in the video above)
  2. Identify the location of each catch
  3. Select a proper, safe tool to use (check out our recommended tools here)
  4. Gently place your tool in between the catch and the body of the pigtail housing and carefully lift-up
  5. As you lift up, carefully pull on the corresponding wire/terminal behind the pigtail. It's important to do this simultaneously, otherwise, you can damage the catch. For example: As you're lifting the catch up with your pigtail tool, you need to be (at the same time) gently pulling the wires out of the back side of the pigtail
