First and importantly: Make sure the quality of material is good. Meaning; terminals, seals, wires that can handle high temps.

Remove the front face of the pigtail by using a small tool to pry up on the face and pull it out with the opposite hand. (Check out the first video above to see exactly how all these steps are done).

Once the front face has been removed it’s time to locate the locking pins, aka the catch. The catch could possibly be built into the connector, which in D81B3’s case, it is.

The catch is a small plastic piece inside the connector that acts as a locking mechanism that holds the pins and terminals.

D81B3 will have three catches. Because it has three pins, it’s a three-terminal connector.

Quick Note: The number of terminals a connector has = the number of catches.

After the catch has been located, it’s time to remove the pins/wires away from the connector. When you do this, the pins will come out.

Time to Re-pin…

Now, you’ll see small, little “feet” on the terminals. These small feet stick up or to the side on each terminal which locks the terminals in place with the catch. If you try inserting the terminals back into the connector incorrectly, you’ll feel tension. When this happens, stop. Try turning it around and see if you were attempting to insert it the wrong way. (In the video we show you both the wrong way and the right way).

Once you insert the terminal the right way you’ll hear a CLICK.

The click means you’ve inserted the pin back the right way.

Once all the terminals are back in place, gently pull (the pull test) on the wires to assure that the terminals will not come out.
